Second coursework assignment

Read through the critical anthology essays and choose one that you wish to respond to for your second piece of coursework. Post ideas on your blog by Monday 30 January, indicating the essay you are referring to and the text that you will be using. Outline what argument you are proposing and show how you will be evaluating it.

Remember that a good coursework response will arise out of a question you ask about the points made in your chosen stimulus essay rather than just an application of its points to a text e.g. don't just discuss how an obviously feminist piece of writing is feminist or how a poem is using different types of metaphor. Examine how useful such approaches are to a particular text.

Frankenstein, romantic or gothic?

After reading and reflecting on the second volume of 'Frankenstein' (up to chapter 17) comment on whether you feel the novel is more romantic than gothic in this section?  Hand in your comments on paper (about 500 words) by Monday 23 January. Refer to the essay linked in the previous post.

Also, how might this image of Byron's Manfred painted by Ford Madox Brown be useful in your response?
